It’s a Curious Thing …

I watched Lucy on the movie channel last night. The main character is made into a drug mule, against her will. A bag of something is placed into her intestines, it breaks, and the drug floods her system, gradually opening up 100% of her brain. By the end of the film, she can do just about anything extraordinary except prevent her own death. The idea behind the movie, that we can only use 10% to 20% of our brain is interesting and apparently, false. Here’s a link in case anyone’s interested: It’s a succinct read and it mentions the film I watched.

I think the idea is interesting because regardless how much of our brains we’re using on a regular basis, wouldn’t it be fantastical if we could do really extra corncoolio stuff with it? Like; control our own bodies (change our height because we want to), control others (make someone mute because they talk too much), move stuff around (because it needs to go in that corner instead of the one it’s in)… Fun, eh??

I suppose it’s a wonderful thing that we don’t have these capabilities. We’re too ignorant to use them in a way that would benefit the human race or the planet. Our collective ego is still too young and hungry, and our capacity to act independently of it is also still infantile. We’re like the Cookie Monster – we either always want more or we want what the other guy has.

What does any of this have to do with alcoholism or addiction or sobriety or recovery? Nothing.
